Joanne: I don't know what I would do without Meals on Wheels.
Dear Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa Members, Supporters and Advocates:
President Trump released the administration’s proposed federal budget for next fiscal year that begins October 1st, which proposes significant cuts to critical safety net programs for seniors and adults with disabilities, including Meals on Wheels programs.  Please see the statements below from Governor Brown and Meals on Wheels America.
MOWCA will advocate this summer to change the proposed budget to reflect an America that does not leave seniors and adults with disabilities isolated and malnourished.
In brief, the proposed federal budget would:
·        Cut $3 million from Older Americans Act (OAA) Nutrition Programs, the primary source of federal Meals on Wheels funding
·        Cut Medicaid by up to $1.3 trillion over 10 years
·        Cut Social Security by over $72 billion through the Social Security Disability Insurance (SSDI) and Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
·        Cut the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program, Social Service Block Grants, Community Service Block Grants, Community Development Block Grants, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program, Legal Services Corporation, State Health Insurance Assistance Program, the Centers for Disease Control’s Fall Prevention Program and Senior Corps
Governor Brown Statement on President Trump's Budget Proposal 5-23-2017

SACRAMENTO – Governor Edmund G. Brown Jr. today issued the following statement on President Donald J. Trump's 2018 Proposed Budget:

"This budget proposal is based on utterly bogus economic assumptions. It gives a massive tax break to the wealthiest, while imposing painful and debilitating burdens on tens of millions of decent and hard-working people. It's unconscionable and un-American."
Meals on Wheels America Statement on the President’s Fiscal year 2018 Budget 5-23-2017
“Cuts to funding sources on which Meals on Wheels programs rely – coupled with the significant reductions proposed to SNAP, Medicaid, and other safety net programs for low-income Americans and people with disabilities – would exacerbate the widespread suffering already felt by millions of vulnerable seniors and put greater pressure on an already strained senior support infrastructure.”
