COVID-19 and Our Seniors

Our team at Meals on Wheels of Contra Costa is closely following developments surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak (also known as Novel Coronavirus). Our seniors and homebound neighbors are among the most vulnerable in our community and keeping them, as well as our staff and volunteers safe, is of paramount importance.

We are receiving an abundance of calls from vulnerable seniors that are now homebound due to the Shelter In Place mandate and they are afraid to leave their house to get food. Many of our volunteer drivers are also considered to be at risk seniors and are staying home to isolate.

This has created a brand new challenge for us and our contracted agencies that coordinate meal deliveries, Meals on Wheels Diablo Region and Meals on Wheels West County, to find enough volunteers.
We have added a few more routes to help with the growing demand of meals and we are providing extra emergency shelf stable meals and frozen meals.

During this difficult time, our seniors need your help more than ever! We desperately need volunteers to deliver meals Monday through Friday. Will you be a part of our team? If you are unable to volunteer, a donation of any amount is truly appreciated and vital during these uncertain times.

We are so thankful for the dedicated and continued support of our volunteers and donors. We will get through this together!

For more information on how to volunteer in Central or East Contra Costa county, please call 925-937-8311 or visit  To volunteer in West Contra Costa county, please call 510-412-0166.

For every $4 dollar donation, one more meal can be provided to a homebound senior in Contra Costa County. Can you chip in to support them today?
